An award-winning and proud Nyoongar rapper, Flewnt is one of the most electrifying up and coming artists in Boorloo.
Joshua ‘Flewnt MC’ Eggington has a strong family legacy rooted in activism, using hip hop as his platform to articulate a powerful, positive, and uplifting message for his people. Bringing that extra fire to his live set, he’s joined by the powerhouse vocals of Tani Walker, DJ Optamus (Downsyde) on the decks, Jack Sirett on trumpet and James Sewell on sax.
His break-through single Kya Kyana, which won WAM Song of the Year in 2018, is a roaring Noongar anthem and tribute to the strong history of his family, culture, and people. Follow up track – the autobiographical Black Boy featuring Emily Wurramara – saw Flewnt connect on a more personal level reflecting not only his own family struggles, but a lived experience shared by many indigenous youths today.
After the national success of those two debut singles, Flewnt performed at festivals including Wave Rock, In the Pines, Maali fest, Fairbridge Festival, Ord Valley Muster, WAM fest, and Hidden Treasures, and went on to support Australian hip hop royalty Downsyde on their national tour.
Flewnt’s latest single Always Was – a powerful call to action track featured on NITV’s “incarceration nation” documentary solidified Flewnt MC as the most electrifying up and coming artist in Boorloo.
