Kristian Borring Trio features its namesake guitarist, described as an understated virtuoso.
The Kristian Borring Trio is led by guitarist Borring, with Zac Grafton on double bass and Alex Reid on drums.
Kristian Borring is an Australia-based, Danish-born guitarist. He is cited to be “a guitarist of enormous technical ability who utilizes his considerable gifts thoughtfully and tastefully, a highly accomplished guitarist and composer” (The Jazz Mann).
On graduating from Guildhall School of Music in London (2006), he cemented his name on the UK scene as a leader and sideman alike. With multiple acclaimed albums to his name (on Jelly Mould Jazz Records, Babel, Ultra-Sound Records and Coolit! Records), he has also performed with Archie Shepp, Will Vinson, Jim Hart, Jamie Oehlers, Fabian Almazan, Tal Cohen, Monika Lidke, Bruno Heinen, Tommaso Starace and many more. Kristian is often described as an understated virtuoso and is recognised for having a “contemporary edge whilst never losing his firm grip on the jazz guitar lexicon… a masterful exposition of jazz guitar and the small jazz combo” (Bebop Spoken Here). Kristian continues to perform and tour with his European group, which has received much acclaim for its “great force and a controlled ferocity” (Jazz Special, DK) and “control and empathy” (BBC 3). Endorsed by Eastman Guitars, Borring has also recently founded his own label Cool it Records. He lectures and teaches jazz guitar at WAAPA.
Bassist Zac Grafton has appeared at jazz festivals throughout Australia and overseas in Asia, Europe and the US. Highlights of Zac’s career to date include performing with Peter Bernstein, George Garzone, Fabian Almazan and Tal Cohen as well as the opportunity to study with Gilad Hekselman, Robert Hurst, Walter Smith III, Linda Oh, and Sam Anning.
Based in Perth, he has featured on a number of local albums with Harry Mitchell Quartet, Jamie Oehlers Night Music and Kristian Borring as well as local instrumental band Grievous Bodily Calm.
Alex Reid is a National Jazz Award Finalist and three times WAM nominated drummer. Based in Perth/Boorloo, his main musical output is concentrated into his award-winning original project Grievous Bodily Calm as well as dance music duo Bad Whip and his constantly gigging jazz trio. In addition to consistent sideman work and his own projects, Alex is also studying the Tabla and Hindustani music.
