Joshua “Flewnt MC” Eggington is an award-winning, proud Nyoongar rapper from Boorloo (Perth). With a strong family legacy rooted in activism Flewnt uses hip hop as his platform to articulate a powerful, positive, and uplifting message for his people. Bringing that extra fire to his live set, Flewnt is joined by DJ Optamus (Downsyde) on the decks, the power-house vocals of Tani Walker, and for that added hip hop funk flava – Jack Sirett on trumpet and James Sewell on saxophone.
Bursting on to the scene with his breakthrough single Kya Kyana – a roaring Noongar anthem and tribute to the strong history of his family, culture, and people, the single is a nod to the past while striving and thriving towards a better future. Follow up track, the autobiographical Black Boy ft Emily Wurramara, saw Flewnt connect on a more personal level reflecting not only his own family struggles, but a lived experience shared by many indigenous youths today.
After the success of his two debut singles, both receiving rave reviews and airplay on Triple J, Double J, local community and national Indigenous radio, Flewnt played live at various venues and festivals including Wave Rock, In The Pines, Maali fest, Fairbridge Festival, Ord Valley Muster, WAM Fest, Hidden Treasures, and went on to support Australian hip hop royalty Downsyde on their national tour. As for the rest of 2021, watch out for Flewnt’s Always Was a powerful call to action track featured on NITV’s “incarceration nation” documentary as well as latest single, Desert Rose – all solidifying Flewnt MC as the most electrifying up-and-coming artist in Boorloo.
