Trumpeter Tom Avgenicos creates work that is exploratory, bold and deeply emotive with quartet Delay 45.

Avgenicos leads Delay 45, a unique Australian jazz group that features close collaborators Roshan Kumarage (piano), Dave Quinn (bass) and Ashley Stoneham (drums). Delay 45 create an immersive listening experience, flowing seamlessly between structure and spontaneity. Their approach to performance affords an exploration of various moods, colours and textures, provoking evocative musical spaces. They have an innovative and individual approach to performance with remarkable agility, musicality and finesse, demonstrating how they are one of the most exciting ensembles to emerge in recent years from Australia’s jazz and improvised music scene.

Delay 45 has performed at some of Australia’s most prestigious concert venues and festivals including Phoenix Central Park, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Recital Centre, MONA and the Sydney Conservatorium International Jazz Festival. In 2022, Delay 45 launched an extensive Australian tour, supported by SIMA’s Regional Touring Program, Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund – an Australian Government initiative, Create NSW and Australia Council for the Arts.
