Football’s over. Summer’s nearly here.

That means it’s time for the greatest spring music event on the Australian jazz calendar: Jazz Night Out, Saturday October 14. It’s when Perth swings like no other city in the land.

Imagine. More than 40 superb musicians, 14 cool inner-city venues, a smorgasbord of jazz from Latino tradicional to New Orleans Dixie, and all for free. Epic stuff.

Jazz Night Out is one of the marquee events of this year’s Perth International Jazz Festival, now celebrating its 11th year.  It’s time to get out of the house and swing into places such as Santini, Willi’s Wine Bar or Wolf Lane – to mention just a few – where some of the finest musicians in town will be delivering their own take on the broad Church of Jazz.

Maybe that will be the Late Night Organ Donors and an afternoon set at Shadow Wine Bar;  the Holli Scott Duo at Bobeche; or the Da Paz Trio giving Varnish on King a decidedly Brazilian accent.  The (jazz) world’s your oyster.

It all kicks off with a very family-friendly gig from the Marcio Mendes Band at Hibernian Place Saturday afternoon, from noon: bring the kids, catch up with friends, grab a bite or a  refreshing drink. And on it rolls from there. Crawl Perth and Northbridge hitting up the venues and musos you fancy.

All you need is the energy and lust for life.

Jazz Night Out winds up with an adults-only set from contemporary swing outfit Matt Smith Trio at Wolf Lane kicking off around 10 pm. Goes well with a martini. Between you’ll find performances reflecting the diversity of jazz in Perth in 2023.

Discover new Perth venues, new musicians to follow. Maybe even a new favourite wine? It’s all in from of you on the Jazz Night Out

Jazz Night Out is just one of the many exciting events on the program of Perth’s International Jazz Festival, this year set over five weeks with 40 venues, 59 events and a total of 71 performances. The Festival celebrates international superstars and home-grown emerging talent with equal fervour.
