For one special performance, two of New York’s finest female jazz talents take to the stage for the Perth International Jazz Festival.
Trombonist Mariel Bildsten and her Septet will feature rising alto saxophone star Sarah Hanahan in an evening of music that will delight fans of the jazz greats and those with their ears fixed on the future of the genre. Bildsten’s arrangements and originals celebrate the prestigious music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Duke Pearson and more. Her acclaimed ensemble captivates its listeners by presenting a timeless tradition of jazz. Through audience interaction and storytelling, Bildsten and her band provide insights into this classic American music.
Audiences are carried from past to present, rooted in the warm and inclusive environment that Bildsten creates. The Septet will be rounded out with a cohort of Perth’s finest players: Ricki Malet (trumpet), Gemma Farrell (tenor saxophone), Chris Foster (piano), Nick Abbey (bass) and Pete Evans (drums). This show will bring the exhilarating spirit of New York jazz clubs to the centre of Perth.
