Allira Wilson & Harry Mitchell: The Music of Paul Simon [SOLD OUT]

 

Four of Australia’s leading musicians present a new album of reimagined Paul Simon works. 
Released in July on ABC Music it features award winning musicians -
Allira Wilson: Vocals
Harry Mitchell: Piano 
and Karl Florisson: Double Bass 
Ben Vanderwal: Drums

Allira is one of Australia’s most exciting and sought after vocalists. An Australian Jazz Bell Award winner, she has worked with notable artists and ensembles such as Jamie Oehlers, Kate Ceberano, Jim McNeely, Gian Slater, Guy Sebastian, Barney McAll, Invenio and WASO. She is featured on records such as Alice Humphries' ‘ECILA’, the Rick Webster Project, Freddie Grigsons ‘Duos’ and Barney McAll and Gian Slater’s Collobaration ‘Global Intimacy’. A Freedman Fellowship nominee, Wilson released her album ‘Rise and Fall’ in 2014 and recently released ‘I Am Like The Rain- The Music of Paul Simon’ on ABC Music in July 2020. ‘Wilson took out best Australian jazz vocal award at the 2014 Bell Awards and this debut-album signals the arrival of an important new voice’ (John McBeath, The Weekend Australian, 4 stars). 
She continues to work regularly in Australia’s jazz venues and is a mainstay among the Jazz Festival circuit right across Australia. She has performed at the Perth International Jazz Festival, Melbourne Jazz Festival, Wangaratta Jazz Festival and Melbourne’s White Night Festival. 

Harry has performed with notable international and national artists such as Vincent Gardner, Jerome Jennings, Kate Ceberano, Veronica Swift, George Garzone, Julien Wilson, Troy Roberts and Linda Oh. He has also performed with popular artists like Charlie Watts (Rollingstones), Katy Steele (Little Birdy) and Damien Leith. Some recent releases he has been recorded on as a sideman include Hank Marvin (The Shadows) - Without a Word, Jamie Oehlers - Night Music and Daniel Susnjar Afro Peruvian Jazz Group – Spark. In 2014 he won the Woss Scholarship (best recitalist) at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts for Jazz studies. In 2017 he was awarded Young Australian Jazz Musician of the year at the AUS Bell awards, as well as being awarded 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2019-2020 WAM Jazz song of the year. In 2018 and 2019 he was awarded WAM best pianist. Harry has released 4 albums with his quartet/quintet, and three trio albums with his group TrioTrio featuring Ben Vanderwal and Karl Florisson.
