All musicians and music lovers in Perth are invited down to The Ellington to jump on stage and have a jam, as has been the annual tradition since the Perth International Jazz Festival began. Come on down, grab a drink and enjoy yourself! These jazz jams are always absolutely incredible, and this year promises to be an especially exciting one, with the return of interstate and international artists after two years of border closures.
Musicians bringing in their instrument and vocalists coming to sing enter free of charge. If reserving a free Jam Musician Ticket, please ensure you bring your instrument or indicate that you are a vocalist coming to jam for our door person to check.
All other guests $20 at the door. If you are not coming to jam and just coming to watch, please do support our musicians by purchasing a ticket.
The group features:
Tessie Overmyer: saxophone
Jackson Van Ballegooyen: piano
Oscar Peterson: bass
Ollie Shute: drums
Sydney-based alto saxophonist Tessie Overmeyer brings her talents to the PIJF stage.
With creative artistry and impressive skill, she brings fresh innovative playing to both her own original music and well-loved jazz standards.
Launching onto the world stage at just 17 at the famous Newport Jazz Festival, she was previously part of SIMA’s 2020 Sydney Women’s Jazz Festival lineup, supporting Monica Trapaga. She has also played at the Manly Jazz Festival, the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Festival, and the Newcastle Jazz Festival.
In 2020, Tessie was selected to play the lead alto chair of the Australian National Youth Jazz Orchestra and plays lead alto with the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra.
The Tessie Overmyer Quartet is made up of musicians from around Australia, who met through participating in the Australian National Youth Jazz Orchestra earlier this year.
