Even as a student at New York’s New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Jazzmeia Horn was winning accolades from DownBeat magazine. Among other awards, in 2015, she won the Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition – the major accolade for any rising jazz musician. With this came a record contract with Concord Jazz, with whom she released A Social Call (2017) and Love and Liberation (2019). In October this year, the Texas-raised singer releases Messages via Empress Legacy Records. As well as embodying a vocal mastery that likens her to jazz greats including Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan, Horn is also a songwriter of exceptional maturity and heart.
