Acclaimed US singer-songwriter Gregory Porter’s luscious vocal sound and songwriting abilities have catapulted him to the top of his generation’s jazz luminaries. Growing up in Bakersfield, California, Porter was raised on gospel music and his minister mother’s Nat King Cole collection. After swapping his university football scholarship for the jazz clubs of New York, Porter was soon making waves with his first album, 2010’s Water, followed up by 2012’s Be Good, both receiving Grammy nominations. In 2013, he released his breakout Blue Note debut, Liquid Spirit, which grew into a global phenomenon, selling more than a million albums and earning Porter his first Grammy Award, prompting NPR to declare him “America’s Next Great Jazz Singer”.

His 2016 follow-up, Take Me to the Alley, won Porter his second Grammy and firmly established him as the most soulful jazz artist of his generation. The same year, a performance at the UK’s Glastonbury Festival saw The Daily Telegraph describe his voice as “a creamy baritone that flows thick and smooth across a rich gateau of juicy melody”. He paid tribute to his musical idol in the heartfelt album Nat King Cole & Me in 2017, and in 2020 returned to his original songwriting on the uplifting All Rise, both of which received Grammy nominations.
