Bad Neighbour
Bad Neighbour features five of Perth’s rising jazz stars in trumpeter Matt Knight, saxophonist Oliver Taylor, pianist Bob Tweedie, bassist Cass Evans-Ocharern and drummer Ben Shelley.
Having worked closely together in a variety of settings over the past five years, Bad Neighbour is the next step in exploring the group’s musical connection. Despite their young ages, all players have already distinguished themselves among their peers and on the local jazz scene. All have studied – or are still studying – at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and many have connections with the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra, including Taylor’s stint as Composer in Residence in 2023, and Tweedie’s as Associate Composer in Residence the year before. All players are known for their musical versatility and virtuosity. Bad Neighbour’s repertoire includes originals from each player along with fresh arrangements of jazz classics, which underpin their deep love of tradition.
WAAPA Jazz Collective
WAAPA’s 4th Year Graduating Collective take to the stage to showcase their composition and arranging skills. After the culmination of years of study each member will present a snippet of their original compositions inspired by their musical interests. Paying homage to renowned jazz writers, graduating students will demonstrate their adept arranging skills by breathing new life into jazz standards.
